Sometimes a gal just needs to make the first move.
Ladies, we no longer have to wait for a man to make the first move. While we may hold out hope that chivalry isn’t indeed dead, it kind of is. Maybe not completely dead. But it’s limping on one foot. So, let’s stop pretending that our romantic lives are like the Disney movies we watched as kids. If Prince Charming hasn’t shown up to save you, he’s probably lost, or just not interested.
Let’s get to work and be proactive in our dating lives. What if your Prince is that handsome guy sitting at the bar alone but he’s too shy to talk to you? Or maybe you’re on your iPhone and seemingly unapproachable. There’s an available seat right next to him, yet you decide to stand instead of striking up a conversation. You may just be letting your Prince get away because of societal rules and norms. As they say, women aren’t “supposed to” make the first move.
That’s right, we have to talk to men.
Glances Will Only Take You So Far
That guy that you keep glancing at from across the bar can’t read your mind. He may not even realize that you dig him until you get up, sit beside him, and strike up a conversation. If he’s sitting alone and watching a sports game, finish your drink, stand beside him at the bar, and ask him what drink he recommends. Once he suggests a drink, ask him more about it, like the ingredients, or you can even ask what his favorite drink is. He might just open up and offer to buy you a drink.
Ask for His Number
If you really find the guy interesting, ask him for his number before he leaves. Yes, it’s nice when a guy asks for our number, but he may not be that forthcoming. If you want to talk to him again, don’t let him get away.
The Business Card
If he starts to leave and hands you his business card, it can mean one of two things: he likes you and is just in a hurry, which is why he’s not adding your number into his phone; or he’s not that into you and is turning you down nicely. How can you tell which one it is? Read his body language when he gives you his card. If he’s reluctant, lacks eye contact, and doesn’t emphasize that you call him, it is probably the latter.
Now the ball is in your court. Take the chance and call him. If he answers, you get a date out of it. If he doesn’t or doesn’t call back, at least you tried something new. Keep living your life the way you did before you met him. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose, so make that first move, Princess.
